StoopKit Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 8, 2026

StoopKit is a Chrome extension that displays building-record information on supported StreetEasy listings in New York City. This policy explains what information StoopKit processes and how it is used.

Information StoopKit processes

When you open a supported StreetEasy listing, StoopKit reads the building address shown on that listing. A normalized version of the building address is sent over HTTPS to StoopKit's backend service, hosted on Render, so the extension can retrieve and analyze relevant public NYC building and housing records.

If a listing includes an apartment identifier, StoopKit may use it locally in your browser to prioritize public records associated with that apartment. The listing's apartment identifier is not sent to StoopKit's backend service.

The results shown by StoopKit may include public-record complaint and violation dates, publicly reported apartment or unit numbers, issue descriptions, record status, inspection outcomes, building age, residential-unit count, building type, and building-level rent-stabilization indicators derived from public registration records.

StoopKit does not require you to create an account.

StoopKit does not intentionally collect your name, email address, StreetEasy username or password, StreetEasy cookies, payment information, the contents of messages or inquiries, or your general browsing history outside the functionality needed to provide StoopKit's building summary.

How information is used

The building address is used only to identify the building associated with the listing, retrieve relevant public NYC records, generate the building summary and record details shown in the extension, evaluate building-level rent-stabilization indicators, and maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the StoopKit service.

StoopKit does not sell user data, use user data for personalized or interest-based advertising, or use building lookup activity to create advertising profiles.

Public data sources

StoopKit uses public records and data made available by New York City agencies and related public-data services, including housing complaint, violation, inspection, property, and rent-registration information. These records may be incomplete, delayed, inaccurate, or subsequently changed. A building-level rent-stabilization indicator does not confirm that a particular apartment is rent stabilized.

Service providers

StoopKit uses third-party infrastructure providers to operate the service. The StoopKit backend is currently hosted using Render, and internet infrastructure providers may help deliver and protect the service. These providers may process technical information associated with requests, such as IP address, request timestamp, user agent, requested endpoint, request identifiers, and diagnostic information according to their own systems and policies.

StoopKit does not intentionally add personal information to its application logs.

Data retention

StoopKit does not currently maintain a user account database or a database of individual users' browsing histories.

StoopKit may temporarily cache successful building lookup results in memory to improve performance and reduce repeated requests. These caches generally expire after approximately six hours and are not used to create user profiles or browsing histories.

Temporary technical logs may be retained by infrastructure providers for operational, security, and troubleshooting purposes. Retention periods may vary depending on the infrastructure provider and service plan.

Data sharing

StoopKit does not sell or rent user information. Information is shared with service providers only where necessary to operate, maintain, secure, or improve the extension's user-facing functionality, or where required by law.

Optional feedback

If you choose to report an issue from the extension, StoopKit opens an email draft in your email application that may include the listing URL, building address, and issue type. Nothing is sent unless you review and send the email. If you contact StoopKit, your message and contact information may be retained as reasonably necessary to respond and provide support.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

StoopKit's use and transfer of information received through browser permissions complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. This information is used only to provide or maintain StoopKit's disclosed functionality: showing relevant NYC building-record information and building-level rent-stabilization indicators on supported apartment listings.

StoopKit does not sell user data or use or transfer it for personalized advertising, creditworthiness decisions, or unrelated profiling. Human access to user data is limited to circumstances necessary for security, legal compliance, user-requested support, or appropriately aggregated and anonymized internal operations.

Security

StoopKit sends requests to its backend using HTTPS. Reasonable technical measures are used to limit collection to the information necessary to provide the service. StoopKit does not download or execute remote code as part of its extension functionality.

Your choices

You can stop StoopKit from processing listing information by disabling or uninstalling the extension. You can also choose not to send an optional feedback email.

Third-party websites

StoopKit operates on StreetEasy but is an independent product. StoopKit is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by StreetEasy, Zillow, the City of New York, HPD, or other NYC agencies unless explicitly stated otherwise. Your use of StreetEasy and other third-party services remains subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

Children

StoopKit is not designed to collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as StoopKit changes. Any revised policy will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
